Like your own personal search engine, we have surfed the web, interviewed executives and pored through books to find just the books you need -- the ones that provide the most useful ideas and insights about the world of business today, from texts written 2,000 years ago to recent tell-all tales of success. We also made a point of straying from the usual MBA curriculum, in part because it is more fun that way, but also because fiction, sci-fi, philosophy, and science provide relevant business insights that you simply might otherwise overlook.

Yes, some of our choices contradict each other, but that is in keeping with the spirit of trial and error that has launched a lot of successful businesses. We'll discuss, debate, tear down and build up the best ideas...and the worst...to get to the core of what drives business success or failure. Our titles are irreverent, fun, insightful and outrageous....and our meetings will be as well! You won't want to miss out on this...its high-level business thinking at its best, something we in the Valley have always been good at...and we even throw in the coffee!!

Speaker Bios

Richard G. Caro

Dr. Richard G. Caro is founder & CEO of TangibleFuture, Inc., which provides hands-on guidance to entrepreneurs navigating the path from idea to profitable business.

Richard has over 20 years of experience at the intersection of technology and business: as CEO of two startups, CTO of a third, occasional angel investor, and advisor to new business ventures in fields such as life sciences, communications, alternative energy, security, and nanotechnology. He has been responsible for the development of a number of successful products and has 21 issued patents.

Prior to founding TangibleFuture, Richard held positions as Managing Director at RHK, a provider of advisory services to the communications industry; CEO (founder) of Vital Insite, a venture-backed medical device start-up; Engineering Program Manager at Coherent, then one of the two largest laser manufacturers in the world; and V.P. Technology Development (CTO & employee #5) of Summit Technology, a pioneer in the laser refractive surgery business. Before entering industry, he was a member of the research staff at Stanford University.

Richard received a B.Sc. (Hons) degree from Melbourne University, Australia (1977), and a D.Phil. in experimental physics from Oxford University (1982) — where he was a Rhodes Scholar.

Mohanjit Jolly

Mohanjit Jolly has been with Garage Technology Ventures since July 1999. While at Garage, Jolly has worked with over 20 companies, including LeftHand Networks, PureSight, IP3 Networks, and Xora. Prior to joining Garage Technology Ventures, Jolly was part of the technology and business development group at Mattel, where he helped launch the Mattel/Intel joint venture, Intel Play. He also spent three years in both engineering and business development roles with Itek Optical Systems, a manufacturer of high-resolution reconnaissance systems for both military and commercial use. While earning his M.B.A from the Anderson School at UCLA, Jolly helped found ViaSpace, a technology incubator in Southern California in conjunction with Caltech and Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Jolly earned a B.S. and M.S. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT, with a specialization in electric propulsion systems.

Dayne Myers

Dayne Myers is founder & CEO of Simnasium, Inc., a game company currently in stealth mode. Dayne has extensive experience in management consulting, private equity, and venture management, including more than eight years as CEO of three early stage companies. Before starting Simnasium, he was co-founder and CEO of Elemental Security (www.elementalsecurity.com), a network security software provider backed by Sequoia Capital, Bessemer Ventures, and Mayfield that was recently selected as both a Red Herring 100 and AlwaysOn 100 company. Dayne co-founded the company in spring of 2002 and was CEO until December, 2004. He led the company through two rounds of financing, recruited the management and engineering teams, and led the company through development of its signature product, the Elemental Compliance System. Prior to Elemental, Dayne was CEO of Infinity I/O (www.infinityio.com), the leading provider of technical training in the field of storage networks, which he joined in 2000 and led a successful turnaround. Dayne’s venture management experience started at Walden Laboratories, Inc., an early-stage venture-backed biotech company, where he served as CEO from 1991 until a successful exit in 1995. Dayne’s career also includes several years as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and as a partner at Lochridge Capital Management, a private equity firm. Dayne has a B.A. from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.

Mark Cameron White

Mark Cameron White is the Co-Founder and Partner of White & Lee LLP, a premier boutique corporate law firm with offices in Menlo Park, California and Portland, Oregon. Mark advises companies and venture capital funds on all matters relating to the formation, financing, growth and liquidity of technology-based enterprises. He has worked with recognized companies and venture funds such as HotMail, Classmates Online, and New Enterprise Associates. Prior to founding White & Lee, Mark was an attorney at Cooley Godward and Fenwick & West and was the Managing Director of the International Trade division of the Harper Group, a Fortune 500 company. Mark graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Rutgers University and received an MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business and a JD from Boalt Hall, University of California at Berkeley.
